If an accident report is filed with the police, does it go to your insurance company automatically?

When an accident report is filed with police, it does not automatically go to your auto insurance company. An insurance policy is a contract between the policyholder and the insurance company and usually requires the holder to file a report within ten days unless there is a good excuse for a delay. Most states also require that the holder file proof of insurance when there is any type of accident involving property damage of $500 dollars or more. If the policyholder fails to submit the claim within ten days, the result can be a denial of the claim.
